Bill 52: Alzheimer Advisory Council Passes Second Reading
On May 20, 2010 this Bill was debated and unanimously passed with all party support. Now the Bill is waiting to be tabled on the agenda of the Committee for Justice Policy. During its time in committee the Bill will be discussed and suggestions to it may be made. Changes may be made and then it will return to the House for its 3rd and final reading. If passed it will be given Royal Assent and be made into policy. The house rises on June 3rd and will not sit again until Sept 13, 2010. The Alzheimer Society of Ontario is working on ensuring that Bill 52 is on the Committee's agenda when it sits on Sept 13th. Hansard transcript.

Rising Tide: The Impact of Dementia on Canadian Society


This report released by the Alzheimer Society in January 2010 reveals alarming new data about the projected economic and social costs of dementia in Canada. According to Rising Tide: The Impact of Dementia on Canadian Society, if nothing changes, the prevalence of dementia will more than double in 30 years, with the costs increasing tenfold. The report also identifies four possible interventions to lessen dementia’s crippling effect on Canadian families, health care system and economy.
