Caregiver Calls the Guest House a “Breath of Fresh Air” – George Rust is the primary caregiver for his mother-in-law who was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease three years ago. While Mrs. Coburn enjoys her stay as a guest at a respite bungalow specially designed with a supportive environment for persons with dementia, Mr. Rust and his family are able to have a worry-free break from caregiving.

“Caregivers and Dementia” (June 2008) – A report by the Caledon Institute of Social Policy This report was carried out on behalf of the Alzheimer Society of Ottawa and Renfrew County in collaboration with the Champlain Dementia Network. The purpose of the study was to identify the needs of caregivers of persons with Alzheimer’s disease and related dementia. This work focuses upon the availability and quality of respite for caregivers and the supports currently in place to provide relief from their ongoing caregiving responsibilities. The paper puts forward a range of policy and program recommendations in response to these identified needs. Over the next year, the Champlain Public Policy Committee will be working with the Caledon Institute of Social Policy and the Alzheimer Society of Ontario to determine and move the top priority recommendations into action.
